Checker Cookie

Looking for something to bake for Valentine's Day? Want to bake something for someone special but got no skills?

Here's a super easy recipe that a lot of Japanese girls settle for! (including the author, Kana)

This recipe is not too sweet, so it's perfect for people who doesn't like overly sweet stuff! (as a sugar addict, I would personally add more sugar if I'm making this for myself)

INGREDIENTS

  • 100g butter

  • 80g sugar

  • 1 whole egg

  • vanilla extract

A. 100g flour

B. 80g flour

B. 16g cocoa powder

PREP

  • Take out the butter so it's room temperature... or if you're lazy like me and can't wait, just microwave it for 15-20 seconds :)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Put the butter and sugar in a bowl and mix until they're white-ish

2. Crack the egg

3. Beat the egg

4. Mix the egg into (1) in two to three parts. Once that's well mixed, add a good-looking amount of vanilla extract

5. Approximately split (4) into two! Doesn't need to be perfect

6. Add ingredient A (100g flour) into one of the bowls

7. Add ingredient B (80g flour and 16g cocoa powder) into the other bowl

8. Shape the dough into square prisms of width approximately 3cm. Wrap around them, and put them in the fridge for at least 30 min

9. After 30 min, take them out and cut them into 4 pieces

10. Stack the pieces together as shown on the picture. Make two bars and put them in fridge for at least 30 min. Preheat the oven at 170℃ (338℉) whlie waiting

11. Cut the pieces approximately 7mm thick, and put them on a parchment paper on a pan

12. Put them in 170℃ (338℉) oven for about 15 min and you're done! Woohoo
