Satsuma-imo

(Aka baked Sweet Yam)

The one-ingredient recipe that you (and maybe a special friend) can enjoy on a cold, rainy day this winter!

Notes/ Tips:

Whenever I make this recipe with a yam (the potato that has purple skin

and a yellow interior), it is usually sweet enough to eat on its own. But, since sweet

potatoes (the potato with reddish skin and orange interior) are less sweet, I like

adding butter and salt if I want something more savory. But if I want something

sweet I put a pinch of salt and a ~ healthy ~ portion of maple syrup into it.

Bonus: yams go very well with brown sugar.

Ready in: 3 hours (in oven) - 2 minutes (prep)

Makes: 1 - 4 people

Difficulty: Easy

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 yam (I used this recipe with a sweet potato, which is actually less sweet than a yam)

PREP

Other items you may need:

  • aluminum foil

  • oven safe dish or tray

  • an oven

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Wash the sweet potato

2. Pat it dry and wrap one layer of aluminum foil around the potato (should be completely enclosed)

3. Place in an oven safe dish or tray

4. Preheat the oven to 350 F or 177 C and put the potato into the oven immediately after starting the preheat

5. Bake for 3 hours

6. Take out carefully

7. Use utensils and caution to open the hot foil to reveal the perfectly baked potato

8. Cut through the center, scoop, and enjoy!

You can also make this where you wrap the potato in foil and put it directly into a charcoal fire! (like a BBQ fire or camp bonfire)
